CLB-11 Executive Officer Major William F. Schoen

Major Schoen enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve on 20 October, 1988 from RS Denver Colorado and shipped to recruit training at MCRD San Diego on 6 March, 1989. Upon graduation from Kilo Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion on 2 June, then LCpl Schoen attended Marine Combat Training, Field Artillery Canoneer Course, then reported for duty at P Battery, 5th Battalion, 14th Marine Regiment in Aurora, Colorado. Major Schoen was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in December 1995 and, following completion of The Basic School and Logistics Officer Course, was assigned duties as Platoon Commander, 1st platoon, A Company, 1st Landing Support Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California.

During this tour, then Lieutenant Schoen served as a Platoon Commander with Landing Support Equipment Company, the Assistant Logistics Officer at I MEF SOTG, and, finally, as the Training Officer with 1st Transportation Support Battalion. In November 1999, Lieutenant Schoen was assigned to 1st Recruit Training Battalion, MCRD Parris Island as a Series Commander and, later, as a Company Commander. He was promoted to Captain on 1 January 2000.

After completion of his tour at Parris Island, Captain Schoen was assigned to III Marine Expeditionary Force as the MEF G-4 Maintenance Management Officer. During this tour Captain Schoen participated in Exercise Yamasakura 2003 on the northern Japanese Island of Hokkaido, Cobra Gold 2003 in Thailand, CROC 03 in Australia, and Terminal Fury 2004 on Okinawa. Upon return to the States, Captain Schoen reported to the Marine Corps Detachment, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri as Commanding Officer, Motor Transport Instruction Company. He was promoted to Major on 1 October, 2005.

In December 2008, Major Schoen arrived at 1st Marine Logistics Group and departed for an Individual Augment billet with US Forces Afghanistan (South) from 25 February – 24 August 2009 as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. As the USFOR-A(S) J-4 Officer, Maj Schoen worked from Kandahar and facilitated the construction and development of eight Forward Operating Bases in southern Afghanistan.

Major Schoen then returned to 1st MLG and served as the Current Operations Officer from September 2009 to April 2010. On 1 May 2010, Major deployed again to Afghanistan and joined the 1st MLG (Forward) G-3 as the Assistant Future Operations Officer until 15 August 2010. Upon return to CONUS, Major Schoen assumed his current duties as the CLB-11 Executive Officer.

He is a graduate of the Amphibious Warfare School (Non-Resident) and the Marine Corps Command and Staff College (Non-Resident). He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Colorado State University.

His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
