Lieutenant Colonel Parry
Commanding Officer
1st Radio Battalion
COMMANDING OFFICER'S & SERGEANT MAJOR'S
WELCOME ABOARD

It is our distinct privilege to welcome you to the 1st Radio Battalion Family. You have joined the finest tactical Signals Intelligence organization in either the United States Marine Corps or the Department of Defense. Though fairly new to Camp Pendleton, being relocated in August 2004, the Marines, Sailors and Civilians of our command have already established a solid reputation both here at home and overseas in combat – and that reputation is growing even as we speak with the actions of the battalion in Afghanistan supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Our Mission is to Train, Equip, and Provide specially qualified Marine Forces in order to provide tactical Signals Intelligence (SIGINT); conduct tactical Electronic Warfare (EW), communications security monitoring and analysis, and special intelligence communications in support of worldwide deployed Marine Air Ground Task Forces (MAGTF). And quite frankly therein lays both our duty and responsibility to you, and that is to ensure our Marines, Sailors, and Civilians have the finest equipment, training and leadership that exists so they will succeed in any clime or place and return home to you healthy and victorious.

1st Radio Battalion is unique, in terms of geography, mission, and esprit de corps, and there are some distinct advantages which are natural by-products of this command. The first is that although we as individuals and families are spread around over Camp Pendleton, as a smaller Battalion, the work relationships here form remarkably tight-knit bonds. I encourage you to associate with others in this Battalion. We truly are a collection of remarkable people and the friendships that you form here will be the basis of wonderful lifelong experiences. The second unique characteristic is that we are the sole signals intelligence unit aboard Camp Pendleton and within I Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF). We work very closely with national intelligence assets as well as all elements of the I MEF MAGTF (1st Marine Division, 3rd Marine Air Wing, and 1st Marine Logistics Group), and we work directly for the Commanding General of I MEF. The bottom line is that we really have the best of all worlds in the Battalion! Third, and very important to us, is that the Command as a whole is very much aware of the cost our training and deployments have on families, and as such it is a command directive that Marines and Sailors take advantage of the opportunities that do present themselves and devote undivided attention to our loved ones. It is the least we can do!

Additional information is included in this information package, including the contact information of our Family Readiness Officer, Mrs. Holly Dorlon. Please do not hesitate to contact us if ever a need arises. Semper Fidelis and Welcome Aboard!
