EXECUTIVE OFFICER

Major Gibson

Major Gibson enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1987 and after completing Boot Camp at MCRD San Diego and Assault Amphibian Crewman Course at Camp Del Mar, was assigned to the 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion in Camp Pendleton. He deployed twice to Okinawa as a member of A Co, 3rd AA Bn, with a third deployment to the Persian Gulf in August 1990, during which he served as the crewchief of a 3-shot mine clearing vehicle for Team Mech, Task Force Ripper in support of Allied operations in Kuwait. Following his return stateside, he attended the Basic Airborne Course, the Assault Amphibian Unit Leader Course, and was selected for the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP). While in MECEP he attended the University of Washington, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in History and receiving a commission as a Lieutenant of Marines in June 1996.



Following graduation from The Basic School and Infantry Officer Course, he was assigned as Weapons Platoon Commander for E Co, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines. After nine months with Weapons Platoon, he was reassigned as Executive Officer for E Co, deploying with 2/4 in November 1998 and participating in Operation Desert Fox while assigned to the 31st MEU in December of that year. Following his return stateside, he received orders to The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia. During his three years at TBS, he served as Weapons Platoon Commander in Combat Instructor Company, the prestigious TBS Scheduling Officer, and finally as an instructor and class advisor at the Infantry Officer Course.



Following IOC, he attended the Expeditionary Warfare School at Quantico. Immediately following, he flew overseas and assumed command of K Co, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines in Karbala, Iraq. Returning stateside in September 2003, he returned with Kilo to Iraq in February 2004 for a 7-month combat tour in Al Qa’im, at the Syrian border. Returning stateside in September 2004 and turning over Kilo in November, he assumed command of Hotel Company 3/7 for five months before receiving orders to Virginia Tech as the Marine Officer Instructor. As part of his duties as MOI, he served two summers at Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia – first as a Platoon Commander in 2005 and next as a Company Commander in 2007. Following his MOI tour, Major Gibson attended the Marine Corps Command & Staff College in Quantico and then reported to 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines for duty as the Battalion Executive Officer in June 2009.
