SERGEANT MAJOR

SgtMaj Eric W. Rummel

Sergeant Major Rummel was born in Oakley, Kansas. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on 15 February 1989, and reported in for Recruit Training at MCRD San Diego, California on 13 November 1989. Upon completion of recruit training Sergeant Major Rummel reported to School of Infantry, Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California.

Upon completion of MCT, Sergeant Major Rummel reported to NAS Millington, Tennessee for Aviation Ordnance School. On 9 October 1990, after graduating the Aviation Ordnance School he was promoted to Private First Class and reported to Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) El Toro, California and was assigned to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 11.

On 15 February 1991, Sergeant Major Rummel received orders to Bahrain in Southwest Asia in support of Operation Desert Storm. On 9 September 1991, after his tour in Southwest Asia he reported back to MCAS El Toro where on 1 July 1993, he was promoted to Corporal. On 1 December 1994, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant prior to his deployment to Marine Aviation Logistic Squadron 12 in support of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121 aboard MCAS Iwakuni, Japan. On 2 September 1995, upon completion of the unit deployment he returned back to MCAS El Toro, California.

On 30 June 1997, he received orders to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California. After graduating Drill Instructor School he was assigned to 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, India Company where he served five cycles as Drill Instructor and three cycles as Senior Drill Instructor. On 1 October 1999, he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant while serving as a Close Combat Instructor, Support Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment.

On 29 December 2000, after completion of a successful tour Drill Instructor duty he received orders to Marine Aviation Logistic Squadron 29 aboard MCAS New River, North Carolina. While stationed at New River he executed orders to the Middle East in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) where on 1 March 2003, he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. During OIF he served with Marine Air Group 39, Forward Arming Refueling Point, Team Delta during forward ordnance operations in Iraq. After returning from OIF he reported back to MCAS New River where he served as Munitions Chief for Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 29. On 12 February 2004, he requested orders back to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II where he served with Marine Aviation Logistic Squadron 16 establishing ordnance operations out of Al Taqqadum, Iraq. On 3 September 2004, he reported back to MCAS New River working with Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 29. In April 2006 he was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and received orders to Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry, Camp Geiger, North Carolina where he served as Charlie Company First Sergeant.

In December of 2007 he requested orders to 2nd Battalion 7th Marines in Twentynine Palms California where he served as Fox Company First Sergeant deploying to Afghanistan in support of OEF. On December 4, 2009 was promoted to his current rank and assumed the duties as 2nd Battalion 7th Marines Sergeant Major.

His personal awards include the Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal with combat distinguishing device and three Gold Stars in lieu of fourth award, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three Gold Stars in lieu of fourth award, and the Combat Action Ribbon with Gold Star in lieu of second award.
