1/7 Sergeant Major's Biography
Sergeant Major Paron A. Lewis hails from Mount Vernon, New York. He attended Mount Vernon High School and upon his graduation enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and reported to Recruit Training on 27 November 1984.
Upon completion of Recruit Training at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina and subsequent training as an Infantryman at (ITS) Camp Geiger, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Pvt. Lewis was assigned to Marine Barracks Puerto Rico, Roosevelt Roads where he served as a Sentry and Corporal of the Guard.
In August 1986 Corporal Lewis was reassigned to Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Marine, Camp Pendleton, CA. where he served as an Infantry Squad Leader, Guide and Platoon Sergeant. While at 1/7, Cpl Lewis attended the Infantry Squad Leaders Course. During this assignment Cpl Lewis participated in a UDP to Okinawa, and various training exercised in the Far East.
In November 1988 Corporal Lewis reenlisted and volunteered for the Marine Security Guard Program (MSG). After completing MSG School he was assigned to the following Embassies: Vatican City, Italy, Casablanca, Morocco, Baghdad, Iraq and Aman, Jordan. While on the program he served as a Watch Stander, and Assistant Detachment Commander. On August 21, 1990 Sgt Lewis assisted in the Deactivation of the American Embassy Baghdad, Iraq in preparation for the Gulf War.
After completing MSG in October of 1991 Sgt Lewis was assigned to Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines in 29 Palms, California. While in 2/7 Sgt Lewis served as a Platoon Sergeant, Platoon Commander, and Intelligence Analysis. While at 2/7 Sgt Lewis deployed for many exercises within the Unit Deployment Program. Sgt Lewis also attended the NCO Basic Course, where he was the Honor Graduate.
In December 1993 Sgt Lewis received orders to Recruiting Duty. After completing the required training in May 1994 Sgt Lewis was assigned to Recruiting Station Nashville, Recruiting Sub Station Rivergate for duty as an 8411 Recruiter. While on recruiting Duty Sgt Lewis received many awards and accolades and was later promoted to SSgt in October 1996.
After a successful tour as a Recruiter in May 1997, SSgt Lewis was reassigned back to 29 Palms, CA for duty with Kilo Co, 3rd Battalion, 7th Marines. While at 3/7, SSgt Lewis served as Platoon Sergeant, Platoon Commander, Company Gunny and Assistant Operation Chief. While serving as Plt Cmdr, SSgt Lewis trained and lead a Platoon on UDP to Okinawa, Japan and back successfully. SSgt Lewis also attended the Infantry Platoon Sergeant Course, Career Course, Advance Course and Ground Operation Chief Course. On 01 November 2000 SSgt Lewis was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant.
In December 2001, GySgt Lewis was assigned to Inspector and Instructor Duty, San Bruno, California. There he served with 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marines and H&S Co, 23rd Marines. GySgt Lewis’s billets included I&I Gunnery Sergeant, Operations Chief, and Company First Sergeant. In December of 2003 GySgt Lewis was selected to First Sergeant.
In May 2004 1stSgt Lewis was reassigned to 7th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st MLG, Camp Pendleton CA. 1stSgt Lewis has served as 1stSgt for Bulk Fuel Co, Support Co, and H&S Company. While serving with 7th ESB, 1stSgt Lewis was selected for an Advisory Support Team mission with the Iraqi Intervention Force, now known as MITT teams. He has also served as Battalion SgtMaj from February-August 2006 for the Battalion rear, while half the command was forward deployed.
In April 2008, SgtMaj Lewis was promoted to his current rank, and was reassigned back to 1st Battalion, 7th Marines.
SgtMaj Lewis’s personal decorations include the Bronze Star, Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 3 Gold Stars in Lieu of fourth award, Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 3 Gold Stars in Lieu of fourth award, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
