1/7 Commanding Officer's Biography
Lieutenant Colonel Todd P. Simmons was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in May 1993 upon graduation from Syracuse University.
After graduation from The Basic School and the Infantry Officer Course in 1994 he was assigned to 1st Battalion 1st Marines where he served as Rifle, Weapons, and 81mm mortar platoon commander.
In 1996 he was assigned to the Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team Company where he served until 1999; making several deployments throughout the CENTCOM AOR.
Upon completion of the Amphibious Warfare School in 2000, he reported to 1st Battalion 8th Marines where he served as BLT S-3A and Commanding Officer of Bravo Company. During that tour he deployed to Kosovo with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit.
In June 2002 he reported to 3rd Battalion 23rd Marines as Inspector-Instructor for Kilo Company in Memphis, Tennessee. During that tour he deployed to Iraq as battalion operations officer for OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.
In 2005 he attended the School of Advanced Military Studies in Fort Leavenworth Kansas. After graduation he reported for duty as an operational planner at III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa Japan serving in both G3 Future Operations and G5 Plans. In 2008 he was assigned to 4th Marine Regiment for duty as Executive Officer.
Lieutenant Colonel Simmons is currently assigned as Commanding Officer, 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment.
His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (with gold star in lieu of second award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with gold star in lieu of second award), and the Combat Action Ribbon.
