Commanding Officer’s Update

Greetings and welcome to all friends and family of Blackfoot Company. It is with much pride and admiration that we here continue the rich history of this storied company, and with the same admiration that I write to you here to inform you of your Marine’s hard work, adventures and achievements. The company has successfully transitioned to supporting the 31st MEU, with one platoon currently deployed to Okinawa with Battalion Landing Team 2nd Battalion 7th Marines (BLT 2/7) set to return in July, and one platoon preparing to depart to join BLT 1/7 in July. An additional platoon is currently forming that will depart in January 2011. It is easy to see here how the tempo of life and training is high, and your continued support to your Marines is thoroughly appreciated. ... Read more

MEU Platoon Update

Our MEU deployment began when we set out to sea from Okinawa aboard the USS Harpers Ferry. After a week of travel, we arrived at our first stop in Laem Chabang, Thailand. June

June marks our third month on deployment in support of Operation Iraq Freedom, and the progress we have made thus far is becoming tangible. These days, Iraq citizens recognize not only our vehicles, but our faces as well. Many of them even know our names, and it is always a breath of fresh air when we are invited into their homes for tea. While we always remain vigilant, it seems as though the Ninewa province has become our home away from home.

Three months in Iraq also means that every Marines now rates the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and the Iraqi Campaign Medal. This is the first deployment award for many of the newer Marines in the company. For others, this deployment marks the fourth or fifth time they have deployed here with the hopes of making Iraq a better place. I commend all of the Marines for their hard work and dedication thus far. We hope time is flying by as quickly for you as it is for us, and we look forward to seeing you soon.
