Sergeant Major Troy W. Dabney
Enlisted in the United State Marine Corps in 1984, reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California in 1985. Upon graduating recruit training he reported to Marine Corps Organization Automotive Maintenance Course, in Camp Johnson, North Carolina, graduating in April 1986 and transferred to Camp Pendleton where he was assigned to 7th Motor Transport Battalion. He was then reassigned to 1st Tracked Vehicle Battalion in Okinawa Japan in July of 1988, where he attended NCO School and participated in Operation Team Spirit 1989. Upon transfer from Okinawa he was assigned to 1st Maintenance Battalion in July 1989, where he served as the Maintenance Chief and the Battalion S-2/3 Chief until 1993 when he was assigned to Inspector-Instructor Duty in Amarillo Texas. After three years of public relations and community involvement with 4th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division, he requested orders to Drill Instructor School, San Diego, California in April 1996. After a successful tour as a Drill Instructor in 1st Battalion Alpha Company, he transferred back to Okinawa Japan in September 1998, reporting to 3rd Maintenance Battalion. While there he ran the Battalion Motor Pool and took over the responsibility of Chief Instructor/Director of the Corporals Leadership Course for Camp Kinser. After serving two years in this capacity, he transferred to Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar, to assume the duties of Detachment Maintenance Chief and First Sergeant for Intermediate Maintenance Activity Detachment under 1st Maintenance Battalion in September 2000. In January 2002 he moved to Camp Pendleton, joining General Support Maintenance Company, 1st Maintenance Battalion. From February to September 2003 he deployed to Kuwait and Iraq as a Platoon Commander with Combat Service Support Battalion-18. In February 2004, he again deployed to Iraq, this time with Combat Service Support Group-15, serving as the Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant and S-4 Chief, returning again in September. Promoted to First Sergeant in January 2005 he received orders to 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, Charlie Company where he once again deployed to Iraq in support of RCT-7 from March to October of 2006. Upon returning from deployment he was assigned to Headquarters and Service Company where he served until his promotion to Sergeant Major. Promoted to his current rank in May 2008, Sergeant Major Dabney was assigned to 1st Battalion 1st Marines where he deployed with the Battalion Landing Team of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Force in January 2008. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 2 gold stars and the Combat Action Ribbon. Sergeant Major Dabney is married and has 5 children and 3 grandchildren. |
