LtCol Eduardo A. Abisellan, 3/11 Commanding Officer

Lieutenant Colonel Abisellan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the Military College of South Carolina, The Citadel, and a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from The College of Naval Command and Staff. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in August 1991 via the Officer Candidate Course Program. Subsequently, he attended The Basic School and the Field Artillery Officers Basic Course.

From July 1992 to May 1995 he served with Battery E, 2d Battalion, 10th Marines as a Forward Observer, Assistant Executive Officer, and Executive Officer. During this tour Second Lieutenant Abisellan forward deployed to the Mediterranean in support of Landing Force Sixth Fleet operations with Battalion Landing Team 1/8, 22d Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), Special Operations Capable (SOC).

Promoted to Captain in January of 1996, Captain Abisellan then attended the Logistics Officer Course, Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Atlantic, in Norfolk, Virginia. Upon graduation, in April 1996, he was assigned to the 2d Force Service Support Group, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. During this tour he served as the Executive Officer, Combat Service Support Detachment 21, and as the Operations Officer, MEU Service Support Group 22, 22d MEU SOC from May 1997 to April 1998.

From April to September 1999 Captain Abisellan attended the U.S. Army Field Artillery Advanced Course, Fort Sill, Oklahoma. In November of 1999 he reported to the 10th Marine Regiment, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he served as the Battalion Operations Officer, and as Commanding Officer, Battery B, 1st Battalion, 10th Marines.

In June 2001, he was promoted to Major and transferred to the 10th Marine Regiment where he served as the Assistant Regimental Operations Officer until May 2002. In July 2002, Major Abisellan reported to the III Marine Expeditionary Force in Okinawa, Japan and served as the Target Information Officer, G-3, Force Fires Section until June 2003.

In August 2003, Major Abisellan attended the Naval Command and Staff College at Newport, Rhode Island. Upon graduation, in June 2004, he was assigned to the United States Central Command. He served in the Operations Directorate, Current Operations Division. During this tour Major Abisellan attended the Joint Combined Warfighting School, Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia. He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in July 2007.

In July 2007, Lieutenant Colonel Abisellan transferred to 12th Marine Regiment, 3d Marine Division in Okinawa, Japan. He served as the Officer in Charge of Embedded Training Team 1-10, Afghan National Army in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM, from October 2007 to December 2008. Upon completion of the advisor tour, he rejoined the 12th Marine Regiment where he served as the Operations and Executive Officer until October 2009.
