Sergeant Major Maximino Torres III

Originally born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Sergeant Major Torres arrived at Parris Island, South Carolina on 4, Dec 1989 for Marine Corps Recruit Training. Pvt Torres then reported to Marine Combat Training School, Camp Geiger, North Carolina. He later reported to the basic artillery school for the Fire Direction Controlman’s Course at Ft Sill, OK.
On 1 Jun, 1990 he was promoted to the rank of PFC, and on 23 Jun, 1990 he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of LCpl for being the Distinguished Graduate of his class. After completion of his technical school, he reported to his first duty station in Jun of 1990 and was assigned to “A” Btry, 1st Bn, 10th Mar, 2nd Mar Div, Camp Lejeune, NC and in Aug of 1990, LCpl Torres was deployed to South-West Asia in support of Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. In Sept of 1991, he was deployed to Okinawa, Japan. While deployed he was promoted to the rank of Cpl on 1 Mar 1992. He returned from his UDP in Apr of 1992 when he was then reassigned to HQ’s 1/10 as the Battalions Training NCO.
On 1 Jun of 1993 he was promoted to the rank of Sgt, and later reported to Drill Instructor School at Parris Island, SC. in Apr of 1994. He worked as a Drill Instructor until Jul of 1996, when he received orders to report to the Artillery Demonstration Unit at Quantico, VA. Upon his arrival he was assigned as the Asst Ops Chief until May of 1997 when he was ordered to report to Officer Candidate School. While assigned at OCS he was promoted to the rank of SSgt on 1 Feb 1998. His tour ended in Dec of 2000.
In Jan 2001 he reported into 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines as the 81mm Mortar Plt Sgt and on 1 Apr of 2001, he was promoted to GySgt. While assigned to 3/3, he participated in multiple deployments which consisted of visiting and Operating with foreign military forces in Australia, Philippines, Korea, Thailand, and Hong Kong.
In Feb of 2005, GySgt Torres reported for duty as a Gunnery Instructor, Marine Artillery Detachment, Ft Sill, OK. Shortly after his arrival he was re-assigned as the Battery GySgt for the Marine Battery. On 23 Feb 2006, he was promoted to rank of 1stSgt, and reassigned to I&I, Waco, TX.
In Feb of 2009, 1stSgt Torres reported to Company F, 2nd Bn, 7th Marines and on 4 January 2010, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major Torres’ personal decorations are the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars.
