Captain Stephen V. Fiscus
Weapons Company Commander, 1st Battalion 5th Mariness
Captain Fiscus was born on 10 August 1974 in Chicago Illinois, and was raised in Frostproof Florida. He enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves, and attended Recruit Training at MCRD Parris Island in May 1993. From 1993 to 1996, he served in 4th Amphibious Assault Battalion while attending school. He completed his undergraduate education in 1996 at the University of Central Florida, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps in January 1997.
Following The Basic School and the Infantry Officer’s Course, he was assigned to Alpha Company 1st Battalion, 1st Marines in December 1997, and was assigned as the Weapons Platoon Commander, and FST leader. Upon return from a WESTPAC deployment with the 11th MEU (SOC), He transferred to 1st Force Reconnaissance Company for duty as the 5th Platoon Commander. Capt Fiscus completed a WESTPAC deployment with the 11th MEU (SOC) in December of 2002, and was re-deployed to Kuwait in January 2003 with 1st Force Reconnaissance Company in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. As a Force Reconnaissance Platoon Commander, he conducted Combat Operations in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom One (OIF-I).
In July of 2003, Capt Fiscus was transferred to the experimental Marine Corps Special Operations Command, Detachment One (MCSOCOM Det-1) for duty as the Assistant Operations Officer. In April 2004, he deployed to Baghdad, Iraq as the MCSOCOM Det-1 Operations Officer. While serving under Naval Special Warfare Task Group-Arabian Peninsula (NSWTG-AP), Capt Fiscus was assigned as the Liaison Team Commander, Task Unit Thunder. Task Unit Thunder was a Direct Action Task Force comprised of Marines, SEALs and Polish Special Forces that conducted combat operations in the greater Baghdad area from June to October 2004. Upon return from OIF-II, Capt Fiscus was re-assigned as the Reconnaissance and Assault Element Commander, MCSOCOM Det-1, where he conducted advanced special operations training, testing, and evaluation until the unit’s deactivation.
