Lieutenant Colonel Matthew S. Reid

Lieutenant Colonel Reid is a native of Malone, New York. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant after graduation from Norwich University in May 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering. He graduated from the Basic School and was designated an infantry officer in December 1993.

After initial training at the Infantry Officers Course and the Light Armored Vehicle Leaders course, He served as a platoon commander and executive officer in Alpha company, 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion (1ST LAR BN), Camp Pendleton, CA. Deploying twice as part of Battalion Landing Team 2/1.

In November 1997, LtCol Reid was transferred to the Inspector and Instructor staff for company F, 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment in Albany, NY. At the completion of this tour he attended the US Army infantry captains career course at Ft Benning, GA in January 2001.

In June 2001, LtCol Reid was transferred to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, Camp Pendleton , CA for service as the Lima company commander. Deplying both with the 11th MEU and Regimental Combat Team - 1 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In June of 2003 He was assigned duties as the operations officer for 3/1.

In January 2004 He took command of recruiting station Orlando, Florida. Earning recruting station of the year each year of his command. He transferred command in June 2006 to attend the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, VA. Graduating with a Masters Degree and as a distinguised graduate.

In July 2007 He assumed duties as the current operations officer for Regimental Combat Team - 1 and deployed to Iraq for 2008. In May 2009 He moved to the 1st Marine Division Staff to become the Division G-3 training officer.

His personal decorations include the Bronze Star with Combat Distinguishing Device, Meritorious Service Medal (w/Gold Star), Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medal (w/2 Gold Stars and Combat Distinguishing Device), Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal (w/ Gold Star), and the Combat Action Ribbon (w/ Gold Star).
