2nd Battalion, 1st Marines
Commanding Officer
Battalion Commander's Letter to the Families
Greetings to the members of 2d Battalion, 1st Marines’ family and community! It is my tremendous honor to command such a historic and proud unit. This battalion has set a standard of excellence and mission accomplishment throughout its recent combat deployments that is second to none. The reputation and successes of the unit are well known and respected throughout the entire Marine Corps.
The purpose of this newsletter is to keep all of you informed about upcoming events, the tremendous accomplishments of our Marines and Sailors, and a multitude of other information of interest.
I would also like to thank the city of Santee, veterans of 2/1 and most importantly the wives, children, parents, and families of the Marines and Sailors. The support that you continue to give makes it possible for us to concentrate on the training that may someday save our lives.
My focus as the Battalion Commander is on preparing the Marines and Sailors to succeed in our upcoming deployment to Afghanistan and to provide a positive command climate that enables taking care of the men and their families.
There are undoubtedly tough and trying times ahead. However, we all rest assured that the 2/1 community of family and friends will make our troops feel the support and compassion they deserve. Please accept my personal gratitude in advance.
I look forward to the challenges ahead and am humbled to be serving with the brave Marines and Sailors of 2/1. Thank you again and Semper Fidelis.
Semper Fi,
Matthew S. Reid
