The Battalion is the first active duty HIGH MOBILITY ARTILLERY ROCKET SYSTEM (HIMARS) Battalion in the Marine Corps and has proven itself a valuable asset to the 1st Marine Division, always "on time and on target".

HIMARS is designed to rapidly unleash large volumes of fire against critical, time sensitive targets such as artillery batteries, air defense units and command centers. A weapon originally developed to 'take out grid squares' is now being referred to as a 'long-range sniper system' with its precision fires.
