Take Me Home Registry
"Take Me Home" is a new program by the Sheriff's Department. The regional law enforcement database identifies those with autism, dementia or other mental disabilities in the region and lets officers know how to best deal with their disabilities when encounters occur. The program also makes it easier to find lost or missing at-risk people using facial recognition software. A local police officer came up with the idea for the program after his autistic son wandered off one day as he was unloading groceries. The program is modeled after one in Pensacola, Fla. It is up to families to register their loved ones into the database. The database would include information on the person's disability, special needs, caretaker contact, address and photos. www.sdsheriff.net/co_tmh.html
